Yes, Saint Maur is a Catholic founded school where moral values govern all that we do to help students, parents and staff reach their full potential. Respect is given to each member of our multi-faith, multi-national school community. We do not pressure students to convert to Catholicism or Christianity. Catholic students are prepared for First Communion and Confirmation separately, at the request of their parents.
Yes, our school has summer, regular (used mainly for winter and formal occasions), and PE uniforms. Items are to be purchased via Top of the Class website.
In High School, the curricular framework in Grade 9 - 10 is the IGCSE (The International General Certificate of Secondary Education) curriculum and Saint Maur developed courses to prepare for Grade 11 - 12, which is the International Baccalaureate program. Saint Maur offers students the opportunity to take Advanced Placement Exams but does not offer Advanced Placement courses as taught classes.
In Grade 11 - 12, except for two courses, all courses are IB courses. Students are not required to be Full Diploma Candidates. On average, 25% of the student population in Grade 11 - 12 are Course Candidates.
Our preparation program sees that all 11th and 12th graders meet for guidance at least once each week. We also hold senior seminar sessions that aids in preparing our students for the transition to higher level education. Moreover, three university counselors are available year-round, which has contributed, to date, to our 100% university and college acceptance rate.
Generally speaking, students in Grade 6 - 12 will have remaining academic work to complete at home on a daily basis. It is our belief that while solid academic performance and continual learning must remain the priority, students should have a life that extends beyond studying. It is up to the individual student to determine the right balance between their academic responsibilities with their extracurricular/other commitments.
Saint Maur has a unique cooperation between the Fine Arts and Athletics Departments so that practices and rehearsals are on different days. Therefore, our students are able to participate in a wide variety of activities.
We belong to a group of 12 international and U.S. military schools, with which we participate in various competitive fine arts, academic, and sports events.
Popular activities include speech contest, debate, brain bowl, vocal and instrumental groups, drama, artscape, robotics, volleyball, cross-country, soccer, basketball, and baseball.
Since the local transportation in Japan is among the safest and most reliable in the world, we do not offer a bus service to and from school. Many students use local transportation or ride bicycles to campus.
Saint Maur outsources its cafeteria services to Cezars Kitchen, which provides breakfast, lunch, and snack services throughout the day. In addition to being aware of the students who have allergies, our cafeteria staff is mindful of the various religions and nationalities represented within the school, so there is always something for everyone! While we exercise reasonable care, the school cannot assume responsibility for providing a completely allergen-free environment, and therefore, cannot eliminate all risks to those who have specific allergies. Through Cezars' website, parents are able to manage cafeteria accounts and view what their children are eating.
Being a Restorative Practicing School, if harm is done to relationships or property, or when respect is not shown, a Restorative Justice approach is taken. We work to Reflect, Reconnect, and Repair. Everyone is held accountable to align themselves with the positive respectful culture we require within our community (including the cyber environment). We must take responsibility for our thoughts, words and actions, and to do the hard work of putting things right, if things go wrong, which means facing up to the consequences.
The majority of students enter at the beginning of each academic year in August; however, students are accepted throughout the year provided space is available and they meet our entrance criteria and evaluation requirements.
We accept applications year-round. However, middle and high school classes for the next school year tend to fill up early in the previous spring.

Saint Maur is located in Yamate, a historical, cultural, and residential area of central Yokohama, on the same site where it was originally founded in 1872. Yokohama is approximately 35 minutes from central Tokyo.
